Danny Edwards to step down after 15 years

Danny Edwards

After 15 very successful years at the helm, Chalfont St. Peter AFC can confirm that Danny Edwards has announced that he will step down as Saints' manager at the end of the current season.

Danny was promoted to his position from that of Under-18 manager at the start of the 2004-05 season and has since guided the club to success on the field, including the Spartan Premier League title in 2011 and an FA Vase semi-final in 2009. Keeping the club at Step 4 for eight seasons is perhaps an even greater triumph.

A popular figure with players, officials and supporters, everyone at the club would like to thank Danny for the passion, loyalty and enthusiasm he has brought to his role and for the support he has given both on and off the pitch.

We wish Danny much success in all his future ventures in the game.

Join us in helping a good cause

We are the Zaare Challengers and we are on a mission to get more children into school and we’d really like your help

We are doing the AfriKids Zaare Challenge trip to Ghana in April and are fundraising for its Time to Shine appeal.

If we can sell 5,000 laces we will raise £10,000!

Any money raised by 4th March will be doubled by the UK Government so that could be as much as £20,000!

What can you do to help?

  • We have designed and produced 5,000 absolutely awesome limited edition “Time To Shine” bootlaces and are selling them for £2.50 each or 5 for £10. We will have them with us at the club tomorrow.
  • We are asking your club and all its members to buy as many pairs of bootlaces as you can/need for all of your teams. Then we all need to wear them during the week of the Time to Shine Appeal which is 25th Feb - 3rd March 2019 (Including for training and matches) and post any photos on social media using the #Time2Shine and tag in @ZaareTime2Shine.  Please can you spread the word asap.
  • Contact the Church league and get as many clubs within the Church league to support our challenge and see if we can get everyone buying and wearing our laces. - We can always add another Time To Shine Saturday if necessary.

We are so lucky, we have an incredible school, all the facilities we could dream of, healthy and nutritious food, brilliant teachers and a safe environment.

Life in northern Ghana is much tougher, some of us have been there before so we've seen it. Families live on £1.50 a day which means the cost of school books and uniforms simply isn't affordable for many and they drop out of school.

AfriKids is working with thousands of families and schools every day to get all children, off the
streets, out of mines, out of poverty and into school.

Their work is entirely led by local staff with a simple approach of listening to their communities and
empowering them to make sustainable changes themselves. They have won many awards
for their work including the 'International Charity of the Year'.

Despite the poverty there is real warmth (and we're not just talking about the sun and the chillies!), a lot of happiness, so much football (!) and dancing and we loved being there.

We want to be able to make as much money as possible to do our bit and get more children, just like us, in to school.

Thank you so very much

Charlie, Josh F, Zac F, Ollie K, Zac P, Lauren,Skye and Emma

Saints can't halt the juggernaut

Hayes & Yeading Utd  4     Little 15, 39 Donnelly 49 Jelley 67

Saints  0

Bostik League South Central Division  (Saturday 19 January)

The odds were always stacked against Saints coming out of Saturday's game with the runaway league leaders with anything and so it eventually proved.

Three goals behind with just over half the game played, the omens were not good against a side capable of scoring at will but Saints battled hard and possibly edged large parts of the second half. However, defensive lapses were harshly punished and a Jelley goal to complete the scoring aptly described some poor defending.

If anything, Saints showed Hayes too much respect in the opening exchanges and the home side was able to exploit the full width of the pitch. Luke Appleton was given a tough lesson and will be a better player for it. Up against both a talented front line, there was also Toby Little pushing forward from a full back position and it was the latter who opened the scoring on 15 minutes. With the home side continuing to dominate, Little again found himself in space in the area to double the score from close range as the ball came across from the right.

Saints might have found a way back into the game but Saints' set piece woes continued as Adam Morris hit a free kick from the edge of the area tamely into the defensive wall.

If Saints were to make a game of it they needed an early score as the second half opened but, instead, they were undone by Scott Donnelly who put the game out of reach.

Insult was added to injury when Tom Jelley was allowed an unchallenged run through to goal for a fourth goal.

Heads may have dropped at this point but Saints continued to play and slowly established a foothold in proceedings and began the stretch the home defence. Frankie Jones, against his former club, battled hard and both Adam Morris and Alex Paine pushed forward whenever possible. Michael Kalu added some needed pace in attack as chances began to be created but Dan Fleming had a disappointing afternoon.

Saints need to regroup to face a resurgent South Park next weekend before coming up against Hayes yet again on the following Tuesday.

Saints:  Carl Dennison, Luke Appleton, Mark Goodman, Adam Kirby (Evans Lamboh 79), Alan Hedley, Ruddock Yala (Michael Adeyemi 41), Jack Read (Michael Kalu 46), Alex Paine, Dan Fleming, Adam Morris, Frankie Jones.
