  • Wycombe Wanderers fans say goodbye to legend Joe Jacobson
    26 April 2024
This Saturday will be the final time we’ll get to see Joe Jacobson in a Wycombe Wanderers shirt, as the club captain will depart the Chairboys after 10 successful years in South Bucks.
  • Alan Parry's Previews: One last time for Wycombe this season
    26 April 2024
After four away games in the space of just 11 days, it is finally home sweet home for Wycombe when they host Charlton Athletic at Adams Park on Saturday, April 27 in their final fixture of the 2023/24 season. Whatever the result against a Charlton team unbeaten in their last 14 games, Wanderers have ended the campaign on a high and given their fans so much to look forward to next season. Despite the disappointment of losing at Wembley in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Final, Matt Bloomfield’s men went on to hold promotion contenders Derby County to a draw before winning three away games in-a-row then making it five games without defeat when they drew at Cambridge United in midweek. Victory against Charlton would cement a top ten finish in League One and provide a splendid finale to what has been a season of highs and lows. They lost 3-1 in the reverse fixture at The Valley last September despite West Ham loanee Freddie Potts scoring a goal-of-the-season contender for the Blues. It was the first home game for Charlton under recently appointed manager Michael Appleton, who was subsequently sacked in January after a winless run of ten games. Appleton was replaced by Nathan Jones, an old adversary of Wycombe in his days in charge of Luton Town and Charlton’s seventh different manager in the space of just three years. A Premier League club back in 2009, Charlton have spent six of the last seven seasons in League One where they are six places and nine points below Wycombe in the current table. Wanderers have beaten them only three times in ten previous meetings, and could face their nemesis Alfie May, who once scored four goals in a crazy 5-5 draw at Adams Park playing for Cheltenham Town. He is League One’s leading scorer this season with twenty-three goals. With several Wycombe players out of contract and new arrivals on Bloomfield’s radar, it looks like being a busy summer of comings and goings at Adams Park before the 2024/25 season kicks off in August. Enjoy the summer, and watch this space!
