The first half was one to forget quickly. Saints, with a makeshift back line, were rarely threatened and their attack flattered to deceive but were ultimately toothless. Connor Hayes created the only chance of the half with a shot across the SYCOB goal just before the break. Glann Yala slipped a tackle just before the whistle to set up Dan Hughes but the need for an extra touch allowed the defender to recover and clear before he could shoot.
With the supporters reluctantly venturing back out into the rain for the second half, the promise of more appetising fare was quick to present itself. Glenn Yala hit the post and Aaron Lansiquot saw his header pushed over. Alan Hedley couldn't get enough height and his header was too high. Saints were pressing and the cracks in the SYCOB defence eventually opened after 54 minutes when Lansiquot set up Alan Hedley to blast his shot home from the edge of the area.
Saints were now in the ascendency and looking to close the game and the main chance came after 62 minutes but two poor misses by Lansiquot resulted in the ball being moved quickly to the other end for Lee Thompson to sweep home an equaliser for the visitors. From looking to go two goals clear, Saints had been hauled back, in less than a minute.
Some poor fouls saw Connor Hayes and Tom Mudge in the book as Saints lost much of their momentum as both sides made changes to try to snatch the win neither deserved. Credit to the SYCOB defence for playing so well but Saints barely helped their cause with a reluctance to take on the shot. In stoppage time, Danilson Vicente could have snatched it but his shot hit the post to sum up a frustrating day for Chalfont.
