The visitors were struggling to get going and Saints were ruthless as they swept forward to take advantage. Showing great anticipation, Alan Hedley was quickly on to a mix-up between defender and keeper to coolly lob into the unguarded net.
With the game only just started, The Ducks were running in custard as Remmel Clarke led the assault on the visitors' goal. With barely 20 minutes gone, it was Clarke's determination not to give up possession that saw him spring free of several defenders and his low, drilled cross was turned into his own net by Ducks captain Jack Wood to give Saints a three goal lead.
The visitors did eventually begin to stretch their wings but their game lacked the finesse required to fluster the increasingly confident and composed Saints defence. Mike McEntegart safely gathered the only real shot but Saints could easily have been further ahead at the break if Lansiquot had reached one cross and Hedley got a favourable bounce with others as Saints ended a dominant half.
Aylesbury had to come out quickly if they were to get back into the game and they pressed forward enthusiastically but the home defence was not for moving. McEntegart was ferocious in his marshalling of the defenders in front of him as he scented a valuable clean sheet. The usually impeccable offside trap was momentarily sprung before Adam Louth smartly cleared the trouble. Chances did come but the few shots were largely wide of the mark.
Saints hadn't given up hope of stretching their advantage and a through ball by Hedley put Glenn Yala in against the keeper but his shot skewed wide. Remmel Clarke was left remonstrating with himself as he stabbed another clear chance wide.
A triple substitution by The Ducks failed to ruffle home feathers as Hedley had a shot well saved and it was only a late flurry in the dying minutes that furrowed the home brows. McEntegart first saved after a defensive slip had opened a gap. A point blank save from a header soon followed and in stoppage time Aylesbury hit the post and Anthony Page made a remarkable goal line clearance that showed Chalfont's determination to not just secure the three points but also to ensure the clean sheet.
This was a confident performance against opponents who won't be happy with their contribution but it puts Saints in good heart ahead of their testing FA Trophy game at Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.
