SAINTS OUT OF PREMIER DIVISION CUP

AYLESBURY (0) 3                               CHALFONT ST PETER (1) 2

Craig Henney 57m (pen), 68m          Lee Thompson 26m

Gareth Price 83m                              Micky Swaysland 82m

Chalfont with Jerome Okimo and John Carroll missing narrowly lost out at high flying Aylesbury. Saints clearly had the best of the first half and led at half time with a Lee Thompson goal, who netted after a corner was pushed by the keeper on to the crossbar and it fell to Lee who slotted home. Aylesbury certainly were best team in the first 20 minutes of the second half and were awarded a spot kick on 57 minutes. This was duly converted then they scored another through Henney 11 minutes later. Substitute Micky Swaysland headed Saints level 8 minutes from time but that only lasted a minute when Aylesbury's substitute scored what proved to be the winner. A good competitive match but Referee Mr Marshallsay showed too many unnecessary yellow cards. QPR loanee Joe Britain made his debut from the bench and showed some good touches.

Saints were given a reality check on Saturday as visitors Royston Town stole all the points and ended Saints' unbeaten league run.

The day started well as the rain clouds parted and Danny Edwards was presented with the Premier League Team of the Month award for September. The game began brightly, with Saints dominating early play against a very uncertain Royston defence. Lee Thompson put Saints ahead after 12 minutes rolling the ball home from close range. Everything looked set fine for another win as chances were presented by a defence that was arguing amongst itself right from the start.

The game should have been put to bed by the break but it was just the single goal that separated the sides.

Whether it was a halftime pep talk or whether Royston are just slow starters, the barriers were firmly up and Saints didn't really offer much of the threat in the second period. The visitors were no more of a danger to the well organised home defence but substitutions added some pace to the game and slowly they began to come into the game. Saints failed to respond and it all started to unravel in the last 10 minutes. First a penalty was conceded and Fehmi levelled from the spot. Two minutes from the end, following a missed shot at the other end, Saints lost concentration badly and Royston went quickly to the other end and Lockett scored an angled winner.

Losing is an inevitable part of the game but to lose a game we should have won is frustrating and probably lies behind Danny Edwards' booking for a post game tirade at the officials.

Saints:  Mark Oliver, Lewis Cumber, Jerome Okimo (Luke Brook-Smith), Ed Chemlal, John Carroll, Alan Hedley, Ben Stack, Lee Togwell, Charlie Strutton, Lee Thompson (Mickey Swaysland), Adam Louth.

The reserves drew 3-3 at Camberley Town and are 4th in The Suburban League.

KENTISH TOWN 1 CHALFONT ST. PETER 7

Saints went level with Colney Heath at the top of The Premier League on Saturday with a crushing 7-1 away win at bottom of the league Kentish Town. Only goal difference keeps us in second place.

Played at the cavernous Copthall Stadium in front of a small crowd Saints took an early lead with Lee Thompson converting a Ben Stack corner. Charlie Strutton doubled the lead on 28 minutes and Ben Stack deceived the home keeper with a long range lob on the half hour.

3-0 ahead at the break and with the home side offering little opposition Saints were well on top and within seven minutes of the restart the score had raced ahead to 6-1. Alan Hedley netted for the 3rd game on the trot on 46 minutes and Kentish scored a soft goal through Uduma Kalu a minute later for 4-1. Ben Stack scored his second from the spot on 51 and Charlie Strutton added number six a minute later.

Danny Edwards was able to withdraw players without disrupting the dominance Saints had over a disappointing Kentish team. Adam Louth hit the bar twice as Saints made enough chances to overwhelm their hosts. Substitute Daniel Sears rounded off the scoring with a clean strike in the last 5 minutes.

It seems that Kentish can only look forward to a long, cold winter. They were better when we beat them 10-1 last season in the re-arranged away fixture played at Mill Meadow.

Saints, on the other hand, with 7 successive league wins and 28 goals scored along the way are on a roll.

SAINTS: Mark Oliver, Lewis Cumber, Jerome Okimo, Ed Chemlal, John Carroll (sub Ben Sturgess), Alan Hedley (sub Luke Brook-Smith), Ben Stack, Lee Togwell, Charlie Strutton (sub Daniel Sears), Lee Thompson, Adam Louth.

Next game is at home on Tuesday in the Challenge Trophy against Division One side Kings Langley. Kick off 7.45pm. Next weekend we host Royston Town at 3.00pm
