Kingsbury London Tigers 2 - Saints 3 (Spartan Premier Division)

Kingsbury London Tigers provided a stern test to Saints' title aspirations on Saturday but could not prevent Danny Edwards' side notching up their ninth straight win as goals from Adam Louth, Danny Hughes and Charlie Strutton secured the points for the league leaders.

Saints made an untidy start to the afternoon but a golden spell of play, inspired by Louth on the left flank saw Louth himself open the scoring after half an hour. Tigers quickly equalised after some hesitation at the back but a superb cross from Louth saw a close range interplay between Stack and Hughes which allowed the latter restore the Saints lead. A close range header by Strutton extended the lead. Barry Brosnan deserved some reward for his hard work but turned down one excellent chance and another effort was cleared off the line. Saints went into the break looking comfortable for their 3-1 lead.

The second half was such a disappointment as the balance of play swung to the home side and doubts started to creep into Saints play. Eventually the price was paid and Tigers scored a second goal, the first time Saints have conceded two goals since mid-November. Saints held on during this rocky period and by the end of the game were comfortably holding on to their lead.

Fellow title-challengers Aylesbury and Colney Heath both suffered surprise 1-4 defeats on Saturday to drop back slightly. Tring Athletic enjoyed a convincing 6-0 defeat over a porous Langford team who have leaked more goals than any other side, to maintain second position.

Saints underlined their dominance of the Spartan League Premier Division as they swept aside a Hanwell side that has caused problems for many of the leading sides this season with a 3-0 victory that could so easily have been much bigger.

On a night when all four top sides won their games, Chalfont's was the most emphatic. First half goals from Danny Hughes and Ben Stack underlined a performance that had the home side unable to get out of their own half for long periods.

Inevitably, the second half was more balanced but Saints retained the upper hand and Charlie Strutton netted for the fifth successive game.

Saints' take their one point lead to Kingsbury London Tigers on Saturday for what looks to be a challenging game. It was Kingsbury's win at Aylesbury that allowed Saints to take top place last weekend. An even more testing game comes next Tuesday when Saints travel to nearby Aylesbury for a crucial encounter.

Saints went top of the Spartan League Premier Division on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win over struggling Kentish Town.

Always hot favourites for the win, there was the thought that the only doubt was how wide the margin was going to be against a side that Saints had demolished 7-1 earlier in the season.

As it was, only a Charlie Strutton goal separated the sides for quite some time. Barry Brosnan found himself with space on the edge of the area and drove his shot across the goal and Charlie was on hand to convert from close range at the far post. This was Charlie's fourth successive game on the scoresheet and bodes well for the coming weeks.

Saints created more opportunities but could not get past the active Kentish keeper and his defence, marshalled by former Saint, Matt Holihan. Eventually the pressure told just before the break when a bullet header by Ray Walsh from a corner doubled the advantage.

The pattern continued after the break. Eventually, and inevitably, the Kentish goal succumbed again. A delightful long range drive by Ray Walsh curled into the top corner for the defender's second goal of the game.

Further chances came and went, with the Ben Stack peppering the crossbar with a cheeky long range chip and again direct form a corner. Barry Brosnan missed from close range as the game closed out for a comfortable Saints win.

With local rivals Aylesbury losing to a dangerous Kingsbury London Tigers side, Saints moved to top place for the first time. They travel to Hanwell Town on Tuesday seeking an eighth successive win to strengthen their position.

The reserves made it a good day with a 2-1 win at Tring Athletic.

Having lost at home to Langford earlier in the season, Saints were looking for revenge in this match. Five goals in the first half hour warmed the hearts of the 45 spectators at the match. John Carroll put Saints ahead after just two minutes, Langford reacted swiftly though and equalised on 11 minutes. Charlie Stratton restored Saints lead just three minutes later and on 21 mins, John Carroll got his second of the afternoon. Charlie Strutton added his second on 31 minutes and just ten minutes into the second half scored his third to put Chalfont well and truly into the driving seat. Barry Brosnan added to the tally 11 minutes from the end and just two minutes later Danny Hughes scored his first and Chalfont's seventh. This victory, together with Tring losing and Aylesbury also dropping points, moves Saints up to second place in the league.
